CAS launches training course to speed up technology transfer

Under the auspices of CAS, a training program designed to foster entrepreneurs was officially kicked off on 14 July in Beijing. CAS President Lu Yongxiang was present at the launching ceremony.

Recent years have witnessed the sound progress of CAS in technology transfer. One example to the point is the Lenovo Group. Founded in 1984 by 11 CAS researchers, the Group now becomes an IT giant and a road model for CAS spin-offs.

In the meantime, CAS comes to realize that the commercialization of research results is a system engineering project, involving various elements ranging from investment stimulation, policy incentives to entrepreneurs upbringing.

Prof. Lu pointed out that CAS should further promote the training of experienced executives for S&T spin-offs so as to unclog the channel of technology transfer and serve as a resource for research result transformation.

To that end, the CAS leadership decided in early 2008 to found a training program named "Lenovo College." The move is aimed at founding a training base to cultivate professionals versed in commercialization and transfer of R&D results and S&T industrialization.

For the first session of the program, a panel headed by Lenove Group President Liu Chuanzhi handpicked 30 trainees from nearly 150 CAS research project with commercialization prospects.

Via closer ties and more intimate cooperation with local authorities and enterprises, these professionals are expected to conduct technical cultivation and incubation of hi-tech industries by attracting more social resources, says Prof. Lu.
