On April 26, 2026, the 26th World Intellectual Property Day, the WIPO Collection of Leading Judgments on Intellectual Property Rights People’s Republic of China (2019–2023) was officially released.
This casebook, jointly published by the Supreme People's Court of China and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), features 66 leading cases in both Chinese and English, covering civil, administrative, and criminal cases adjudicated by Chinese courts between 2019 and 2023 in the fields of patents, trademarks, copyrights, monopolies and unfair competition, trade secrets, new plant varieties, and layout-designs of integrated circuits. With a total length of over 300,000 words, the casebook fully demonstrates the development and improvement of China's intellectual property judicial protection rules, reflecting China's determination and confidence in strengthening IP protection and fostering a market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized first-class business environment. The foreword to the book is co-authored by Her Honour Judge Tao Kaiyuan, Second-Grade Grand Justice and Vice President of the Supreme People's Court of China, and Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO.
In recent years, Chinese courts have continued to leverage their rich resources of IP cases and actively participated in global IP governance under the WIPO framework, injecting greater momentum into deepening international cooperation on IP protection and contributing China's wisdom to the evolution of the global IP governance system toward a more just and equitable direction. In 2019, the Supreme People's Court and WIPO jointly published the first country-specific volume in the series, the *WIPO Intellectual Property Leading Cases – People's Republic of China Volume (2011-2018)*. In 2023, the Supreme People's Court contributed to the "China Chapter" of WIPO's flagship publication, the International Benchbook on Case Management of Patent Cases. To date, the written judgments of 96 leading IP cases from Chinese courts have been included in the WIPO Lex database of laws and treaties.
