Recently, ImberaTek LLC filed three separate patent infringement lawsuits in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Texas and the Western District of Texas, naming three major consumer electronics brands — Apple, OnePlus, and HMD Global — as defendants. The complaints allege that each defendant’s flagship products infringe certain camera-related patents owned by ImberaTek. All three cases are currently at an early stage and have not yet proceeded to substantive trial or judgment.

The plaintiff in these coordinated lawsuits, ImberaTek LLC, is a non-practicing entity (NPE). It does not engage in the research, development, or manufacture of any hardware products itself, but rather acquires and holds various technology patents and generates revenue by filing patent infringement lawsuits.

The three lawsuits target three mainstream consumer electronics companies from different jurisdictions, representing iconic brands in the Chinese, European, and U.S. mobile phone markets: Apple Inc., a leading global U.S. technology giant and benchmark in smartphones and smart devices; OnePlus Technology, a well‑known Chinese high‑end smartphone manufacturer with a strong presence in global consumer electronics markets; and HMD Global Oy, a Finnish technology company and the exclusive global licensee of the Nokia mobile phone brand, focusing on mid‑to‑high‑end mobile phones.

The patents‑in‑suit include U.S. Patent Nos. 10,687,708; 10,623,705; 12,336,782; and 11,800,244. All four patents cover core technologies related to smartphone camera algorithms, imaging control, focusing, and image quality optimization — fundamental camera functionality common to both Android and Apple phones.

The cases remain at a very preliminary stage, and the court has not yet made any substantive rulings. China Intellectual Property Lawyer Net will continue to follow further developments.
