Prior to his visit to the United States, China's Vice President Xi Jinping, said the country will take positive measures to address the U.S. concerns regarding China's intellectual property rights protection, and other problems, in a written interview with the Washington Post newspaper on February 12.
Xi said China has taken steps to tackle the problems of IPR protection and trade imbalance, and will continue with those measures. The country will also further continue reform to the renminbi exchange rate regime and offer foreign investors a fair, rule-based and transparent environment, he said.
Meanwhile, he expressed the hope that the U.S. side could also take substantive steps as soon as possible in areas such as relaxing the control over the exports of high-tech products to China and providing a fair competition environment for Chinese enterprises to invest in the United States.
In the interview with Washington Post, Xi also answered questions covering Sino-U.S. relations, Sino-U.S. economic and trade cooperation, Sino-U.S. local and people-to-people exchanges, Sino-U.S. relations in the Asia-Pacific, and bilateral cooperation on international, regional and global issues.
