Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe has appointed a specialized committee to overhaul Sri Lanka’s copyright regulations, aiming to align the local intellectual property law with global trends. The decision came following a meeting held at the Ministry of Trade.
The primary objective of this initiative is to provide legal resolutions to long-standing disputes regarding copyright ownership and royalties in the local music industry.
The newly formed committee brings together experts from the legal and cultural sectors. The discussion was attended by IP law expert D. M. Karunarathna and NIPO Director General Himali Hettihelege, alongside representatives from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Buddha Sasana.
