OPPO Licensed Cellular Standard-Essential Patents to a Major Chinese Automaker

November 2025, Shenzhen, China – OPPO, a global leader in smart devices, announced that it has entered into a global patent license agreement with a large Chinese automaker, granting the automaker a license to OPPO’s cellular standard-essential patents. Under the agreement, OPPO will support the automaker in enhancing the user experience of its connected vehicles and expanding its overseas market presence through its cellular standard patent portfolio.

"Following our agreement with Volkswagen, this is another bilateral licensing agreement with a renowned automotive company for cellular standard-essential patents. It once again demonstrates the automotive industry’s recognition of OPPO’s leadership in cellular communication technology innovation, as well as OPPO’s commitment to building a long-term, healthy, and sustainable intellectual property ecosystem."

This marks OPPO’s second publicly announced patent licensing agreement with an automotive company, following its bilateral licensing deal with the Volkswagen Group. OPPO’s 5G standard-essential patents have been filed in over 40 countries and regions worldwide. According to data from the authoritative patent analysis platform LexisNexis® IPlytics, as of January 2025, OPPO ranks eighth globally in comprehensive 5G patent strength.

Beyond communication technologies, OPPO’s self-developed VOOC flash charging technology has been adopted by more than 60 automotive companies, with cumulative installations exceeding 10 million vehicles. This highlights OPPO’s continuous expansion in 5G and mobile connectivity, as well as its commitment to driving cross-industry innovation with global partners.

As of September 2025, OPPO has filed more than 117,000 patent applications worldwide, with over 65,000 patents granted. The company continues to increase its investment in core technology areas such as 5G/6G, artificial intelligence, charging, imaging, and video, reinforcing its position as a global leader in innovation and high-value intellectual property.
