At the 66th General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held in Geneva, Switzerland, Justice Minister Supratman Andi Agtas reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to speeding up digital transformation to improve intellectual property protection.

Supratman emphasized that Indonesia’s effort for digitization in the IP sector is a strategic reaction to the quick advancement of technology and the innovation-driven global economy in his speech to representatives of 193 member nations and international partners.

“Indonesia aspires to be an active player in shaping a globally inclusive and competitive intellectual property ecosystem,” he said in a statement published in the Jakarta Globe. “Our goal is to deliver IP services that are faster, more transparent, inclusive and accessible to both the public and business actors. We are exploring various technologies, including those offered by WIPO, to boost productivity and improve system accessibility.”

Over the past 10 years, Indonesia’s IP filings have increased dramatically as a result of this digital change. A total of 152,115 IP applications were filed nationwide in the first half of 2025, a 20-percent increase over the 126,744 files made in the same time in 2024.

With 78,209 submissions, copyrights made up the majority, followed by 64,388 trademark applications. Patent and industrial design submissions also rose, reaching 5,831 and 3,668, respectively.

The Patent Law, Industrial Design Law and Copyright Law are all being revised as part of Indonesia’s efforts to modernize its national legal system, Supratman said. More legal clarity and improved protection for artists and innovators are the goals of these legislative reforms, which are designed to be flexible.

Leading creative works and products steeped in the nation’s rich cultural history and local ingenuity were on display at the special exhibition “Local Roots, Global Reach: Showcasing Indonesia’s Intellectual Properties,” which Indonesia hosted on the sidelines of the WIPO General Assembly.

Indonesia also conveyed gratitude for WIPO’s ongoing technical support, namely in the areas of IP commercialization, small- and medium-sized enterprise development and geographical indication branding. The administration reaffirmed its dedication to fostering worldwide collaboration in the establishment of an equitable and long-lasting system of intellectual property protection.
